Reading Contest 2025 – Magical Creatures and Braveness

This year’s Reading Contest semi-finals – hosted by Ms. Deckert – took place for Year 6 and Year 9 at our school on 7 February, 2025.

It was a magical event dealing with book passages out of Dragon’s Green by Scarlett Thomas, published in 2017. All readers were very brave and enthusiastic when reading in the roles of Effie – the young protagonist – and the impressive dragon, who wants to have a fight with her. The readers‘ book-loving spirit clearly showed throughout the contest.

Thus the audience appreciated every single performance and our judges – Lina, Skander and Mr. Blaise – had a very difficult decision to make. While waiting for it, Mr. Neckin read out some more passages out of the book to the audience, so it did not get boring at all.

Finally our team readers Mia and Helin (1st place, 6b) and Simay and Sarah (2nd place, 6a) and our single performers Leonie (1st place, 9c) and Dania (2nd place, 9b) will be sent to the next round, the finals, which will take place at Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt Gymnasium (CaJaBu) this year.

But let us not forget our other contestants – Dina and Nika (6a), Stacy and Joulina (6b), Tanea and Larissa (6c), Emilia (9a), Reem (9b) and Jakob (9c). Fantastic job!

Congratulations to all participants and thanks to all who made our Reading Contest happen. We are looking forward to the event on 6 March, 2025, to which the winners are going to take their classes, too.
