English Reading Contest 2026 – mixed bag for our final round

This year’s Reading Contest in cooperation with Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt-Gymnasium (CaJaBu) took place at our school on 22nd May, 2026.

First, all teamed up students from classes 6 read an exclusively written dialogue by CaJaBu student Quinn, in which it escalates over something that has been broken. Audience, jury and Sara, our native speaker host, were impressed by their reading skills. While the jury was conferring, Sara introduced the novel Wolf Hollow (2016) by Lauren Wolk to the patient listeners. It is about Annabelle, whose world, still scarred after two world wars, is shattered when Betty, very cruel and manipulative, comes to the town of Wolf Hollow.

Furthermore, within our second round, our form 9 students competed with each other by reading a section from the young adult novel Paranoid Park (2006) by Blake Nelson. By doing so, they clearly proved their sensitivity for characters.

Within the decision making break, Sara read on, which enabled everyone to get more insight into the world of skateboarding. The film trailer had also been shown. Hard decisions had to be made in both cases, and finally there had just been winners:

Congratulations to Clara & Rawen (1st place, 6a, CaJaBu), Emir & Dennis (2nd place, 6e, CaJaBu), Emil & Nadim, Max & Luke (both 3rd place, 6c, TGL), Pelagya (1st place, 9d, CaJaBu), Dana (2nd place, 9b, TGL), Rike (3rd place, 9b, CaJaBu) and Finja (3rd place, 9b, TGL).

A million thanks to everyone who has been part of it and kept the team spirit alive. We are definitely looking forward to having our next English Reading Contest in 2027.
