English Reading Contest semi-finals 2026 – Legendary

This year’s Reading Contest semi-finals – hosted by native speaker Sara – took place for 6th and 9th Year at our school on 16 February, 2026.
It was a breathtaking event dealing with book passages out of the young adult thriller Thieves’ Gambit by Kayvion Lewis, published in 2023.

In a dialogue based on the book, our youngest readers from Year 6 had to take over the roles of gangsters on a yacht. Not an easy read, with all the swearwords and other difficulties, but they managed well and definitely brought the bad boy/girl feeling across.

In the contest for Year 9, our solitary readers perfectly presented a scene in which Rosalyn Quest, the protagonist, is nearly drowning.
Much appreciated by the audience and our judges – Lina, Skander, Ryan, Ms. Andreeßen, Ms. Deckert and Mr. Blaise – every reader gave their best.

While waiting for the places to be announced, Sara read some more suspenseful passages out of the novel with the thieving Quest family.
Finally our team readers Luke and Max (1st place, 6c) and Emil and Nadim (2nd place, 6c) and our single performers Dana (1st place, 9b) and Finja (2nd place, 9b) could be sent to the next round, the finals which will take place at our school this year – as always, in cooperation with Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt secondary school (CaJaBu).
Last but not least, there is to say that all contestants did an excellent job! Congratulations to all participants and thanks to all who made our Reading Contest happen.

We are looking forward to the finals on 22 May, 2026 to which the winners are going to take their classes, too.
Keep on reading everyone and enjoy the thrill of it – Your own imagination is the key to these storyworlds!
